I had never even heard of cabbage rolls before making this recipe. We had this massive purple cabbage to use and even though this recipe calls for green cabbage, I figured we could use the purple cabbage instead. I made my own tomato sauce for this recipe, which I will share as well. It was really good, but it really needed more sauce and I think because the purple cabbage is thicker, it needed to be cooked longer. The cabbage was more crunchy than I would have liked.
The filling was absolutely delicious! I ate this twice and both times, I mostly just ate the filling. The second taste was better than the first because the cabbage was a bit more cooked, which I liked better. I recommend doubling the sauce recipe for this, the sauce just really adds that extra oomph to this recipe. It's kind of involved, but it's worth the work if you want to try it out. It's definitely something different to try. I'm not even sure what to compare it to, it's just a really different dish.

Vegan Cabbage Rolls
Marinara Sauce (I added 6 fresh tomatoes and fresh basil to this recipe, and like I said above, you want to double it, it may look like a lot of sauce, but trust me, it will make the dish so much better! I also blended the sauce because I don't like mine chunky, but you can do whatever you want!)
